Is Fashion All About Looks?

The world of fashion and specifically fashion industry is estimated to be generating the most revenue in the economic market. Keeping that in mind, it is needless to say that fashion shows take us forward. With this certain trend and tendency shown especially by our youth and youth world overall, there has been observed a radical change in this field. What was once only providence for the rich, elite and royal has now become common for all ages and all genders.

Economy and Fashion Industry
Fashion: Good or Bad?
It is an ever evolving field and certainly a successful fashion industry does take a country forward. With the economic boost that it provides, fashion shows
are a silver lining in the dark sky. A certain fashion which is in at one place at a time becomes old at the same time. It is a rigorous circle. Considering the fact that the first fashion to be held were in 1800’s, it is apparent that they have brought us a long way further. There is a continued newness in everything that is related to fashion and one way of making that public is to conduct a fashion show. Fashion is not good or bad in itself but the way it is being perceived make it the way. Good in a way that it helps in projecting a soft image in front of the international media. Bad in a sense that it is not affordable for masses.

A Ramp Walk
Fashion Shows Audience
Apart from monetary concerns and personal grooming, there is not much that fashion shows do. There is a certain audience that fashion shows cater to. However, there is a large chunk of the population that has no effect whatsoever of these fashion shows. Firstly, the cost that the dresses have cannot certainly be afforded by a very large population. Secondly, a mere ticket to a fashion show costs a lot. And even if you do have access to any such place, there is no way in the world that one can really learn much about fashion by just sitting there and watching models do the ramp-walk. Yes, it is the in thing today but if we ponder upon the moral, ethical, social, educational significance of fashion shows, we will find ourselves not certain with the answer to this question.

SPF You!

Now that Summer is only a few months away, it’s time to get the necessary items to protect yourself, and your skin. You may be thinking, what’s the harm in a sunburn? An individual’s risk for melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer, doubles if he or she has had five or more sunburns. Unfortunately, getting sunburned can be hard to prevent, which was proved in recent polls by the Skin Cancer Foundation. According to the survey, 42 percent of people reported getting sunburned at least once a year. Forgo taking a risk with your health, and instead invest in the proper sunscreen for your skin.
It is necessary to understand UVA and UVB rays. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, “most people are exposed to large amounts of UVA throughout their lifetime, and although they are less intense than UVB, UVA rays are 30 to 50 times more prevalent.” In other words, UVA is relatively equal in intensity during all daylight hours throughout the year, and can even force their way through clouds and glass. If that doesn’t catch your attention, you might consider that UVA plays a major roll in skin aging and wrinkling. UVB, on the other hand, is the main cause of skin reddening and sunburn. These rays play a key part in the development of skin cancer. Unlike UVA, UVB varies in intensity based on season, location, and time of day. The Skin Cancer Foundation notes that “the most significant amount of UVB hits the US between 10 AM and 4 PM from April to October. However, UVB rays can burn and damage your skin year-round, especially at high altitudes and on reflective surfaces such as snow or ice.” Each rays are slightly different, and some consider UVB to be most harmful due to the damage it causes the outer layer of the skin. However, UVA rays penetrate into deeper layers of the skin, which can only mean that we need protection from both harmful rays, which is otherwise known as broad-spectrum protection.
When considering UVA and UVB, it is also necessary to factor in SPF, or Sun Protection Factor. According to theLibrary of Congress, SPF measures how effectively the sunscreen formula limits skin exposure to UVB rays that burns the skin, however it does not measure UVA protection. In simpler terms, SPF is a multiplication factor. If an individual can brave the sun for fifteen minutes without burning, then an SPF of ten would resist the burn for ten times longer (150 minutes).

Now that you know what you’re up against, it’s time to choose a sunscreen that best fits you. Doctor Ron Moy, who is a leading Beverly Hills dermatologist and President of the AAD (American Academy of Dermatology), has created a sunscreen that guards against both UVA and UVB rays to fight photo-aging and cellular damage. DNA Defense SPF 30+ from DNAEGF Renewal is clinically proven, and has received a three star rating for advanced protection. Do you hate the heavy, oily feel of typical drugstore sunscreens? Moy has perfected the “light to the touch” feel, using Vitamins A and E, so you won’t be left with the uncomfortable feeling left behind by some skin protection products. What are you waiting for? Check out all of the great details on this product atwww.dnaegfrenewal.com.

Protecting your face from sun damage can be a difficult task. Women often choose to part with sunscreen, and to instead apply their usual makeup regimen. Instead, you may consider Miracle Skin Transformer SPF 20, which is a 3-in-1 tinted treatment facial moisturizer(say that three times fast!) that hydrates, enhances, and protects with SPF 20. Skin is left feeling silky with a matte finish, and even protects against harmful UVA and UVB rays. You may not take my word for it, but Dr. Oz has featured this product as a miracle skincare product. Love what you’re hearing? Say no more. You can find this product online atwww.miracleskintransformer.comwww.beauty.com, or www.sephora.com.

Making use of Coenzyme Q10, green tea, Vitamins A, C, and E, antioxidants, and other herbal extracts, you can protect your skin, and even choose between tinted or non-tinted formulas. EmerginC is available atwww.emerginc.com, as well as leading spas nationwide such as Miraval, Trump, The Wynn, and the Four Seasons, among many others.

We’ve all been guilty of ditching the sunscreen in order to achieve the “summer glow” that so many magazines promote. With skin cancer rates rising year-by-year, it’s important to know the facts regarding skincare. UVA and UVB rays may be slightly different, but they’re both working together inflicting destructive side effects to you and your skin. After hearing the harm caused by sun damage, will you take the steps to protect yourself and your skin?

Top 10 Products to Keep You Safe Under the Sun

By: Alexis Schroeder

Beautiful sandy beaches, diving through ocean waves, swinging from a rope into a lake, enjoying the company of friends, and the summer sun are all components of these three long awaited months.  However, sometimes we overlook the summer weather’s ulterior motives, which can be dangerously damaging to our skin.  To keep you enjoying the summer months, we have compiled a list of our favorite top 10 products to keep you safe under the steamy summer sun.
One of the first things on our summer check list – get rid of that pasty winter paleness!  Lying out in the sun builds a lustrous summer glow, but it can be extremely damaging to your skin.  Sunscreen is an absolute must!  Sun exposure, especially without sunscreen increases the chances of skin cancer, wrinkles, and sunburn.  Bracing your body for multiple sun exposures decreases many of these risks, but are you effectively protecting each area?  For example, your lips are exceedingly vulnerable to sun damage because of their reduced amount of melanin – skin pigment.  Therefore, a lip balm containing protection from UVA/UVB rays is necessary.  Apply Anthelios Lip Stick SPF 50+ for approximately $20, which is water resistant and soothing.

A common myth – obtaining a radiant tan is impossible with the use of sunscreen.  This erroneous belief can cause unbelievable sun damage.  This is why we love Banana Boat’s Protective Dry Oil UltraMist with SPF 25.  Infused with coconut and grape seed oil, it provides UVA and UVB coverage while attracting those rays!

Believe it or not, your hair also suffers from UV damage.  Lathering a small amount of sunscreen through your hair will protect your tresses from chlorine and salt.  Generously mist your locks with Ouidad Sun Shield and Sport Leave-In Spray.  This light weight spray conditions and protects hair from chlorine, wind, sun, and salt.  As an alternative, don’t be afraid to comb through the sunscreen you applied to your body.

Skin hydration defeats the summer sun’s drying and aging effects.  During these few intensely heated months, do yourself a favor and moisturize.  Try AHAVA Mineral Suncare Sun Protection Anti-Aging Moisturizer, $26.  Not only does it contain a sun protection factor, SPF, but it revitalizes skin’s moisture and fights premature aging.  For more intense hydration, apply directly after showering while pores are dilated and wrap in a warm towel for five minutes amplifying the skin’s suppleness.

Even though simple, hats’ shielding qualities dramatically help combat harmful rays.  However, with all the oils and products applied to our faces as a result of sunscreens, our hairline and foreheads become the perfect forum for pimples.  Use an antibacterial wipe to prevent these unwanted blemishes.  Dermalogica Skin Purifying Wipes, $18.

With all the tips and tricks provided, sometimes we still find ourselves with nasty and painful sunburn.  If the summer sun does claim you, try Solarcaine Aloe Extra Burn Relief Spray, $8.  With cooling and soothing properties it draws heat away from the body, providing instant reprieve.

Just like our wide brimmed hats, don’t forget to pack sunglasses for the beach!  People with lighter eyes are more prone to sun damage, than those with darker eyes.  Not all sunglasses are created equal, therefore when picking out the perfect pair of sunnies make sure it protects against both UVA and UVB rays.  Also, close fitting sunglasses offer further protection, blocking harmful rays.  Aviators are an excellent summer warrior!
Building a base before extreme sun exposure slows harmful sun penetration.  Try a self-tanner in the beginning of the summer, preferably one with moisturizing qualities and SPF.  Jergen’s Natural Glow & Protect Daily Moisturizer with SPF 20 does just that.

As a part of most of our daily routines, consuming some sort of caffeine jolts us into action.  However, we are constantly reminded to curtail excessive consumption, which most of us are guilt of.  Instead of ingesting this stimulant, new studies suggest using caffeine topically promotes anti-aging.  Also, fewer skin cells are damaged when exposed to excessive ultraviolet rays.  Try 100% Pure Cosmetics Organic Coffee Bean Eye Cream, $20.
